Pentakhar

The Rite of Pentakhar is an ancient Arkhosian ritual, most properly performed when two dragonborn armies meet on the field. In Pentakhar, the dragoon leading each army meets his counterpart from the opposing army in the middle of the field and, as a method to save the unnecessary bloodshed of thousands of soldiers, engages his opponent in one-on-one combat using nothing but a cohos, a traditional Arkhosian longsword.

While most often employed when enemies armies encounter each other, Pentakhar is also occasionally enacted when two friendly armies meet, as a sign of respect for each dragoon. These battles almost never result in death, often concluding at simply first blood or disarming and whomever emerges victorious takes command of both armies, with the loser serving one rank beneath the victor.
